About us
The WINSENT project is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Ireland Wales Programme (INTERREG 4A). Funding will run from June 2009 to May 2012.
WINSENT has a mix of partner organisations, social enterprises and local authorities all working together to:
- Raise awareness and promote the culture of social entrepreneurship
- Create new social enterprises with entrepreneurial flair
- Support existing social enterprises and the social entrepreneurs
- Identify opportunities within the social economy
- Assist community based groups to deliver key services locally in an entrepreneurial way
- Develop WINSENT NETWORK which will facilitate the exchange of knowledge amongst social entrepreneurs and social enterprises. See the WINSENT NETWORK page for more information.
The partners are: Partas (lead partner); South Dublin County Council, Fingal County Council and Kildare County Council in Ireland and Denbighshire County Council and the Isle of Anglesey County Council in North Wales.
The WINSENT Development Officers are Liane based in Tallaght, Aisling based in Athy Co. Kildare in Ireland and Sue based in North Wales. They will meet with any individual or group interested in exploring a social enterprise with an entrepreneurial idea and will offer free support, mentoring, assistance with business planning and information on how to access any funding avenues which are available.

Current Social Enterprises that WINSENT are working with:
Third Age Foundation based in Summerhill Co.Meath, Ireland is an older people’s organisation, run by older people for older people. The Third Age Foundation empowers and enables its members, presenting new ideas, opening up new possibilities.
Rhyl Create – Gallery 36 is a social enterprise which opened in July 2009, consisting of local artists and craft makers who create and display top quality paintings, art works, wall pieces, glass, jewellery, cards, soft furnishings and ceramics.
Fettercairn Community Enterprise Centre hosts an array of different activities from youth clubs to senior citizens. We also have a coffee dock where we supply early morning breakfast, lunches, teas and evening snacks to the general public. We also hold a market at the centre every Wednesday.
Fettercairn Youth Horse Project is a community owned equine facility, situated in the heart of Tallaght. Our aim is to channel the young people’s love of horses into a constructive community activity thus providing them with the opportunities to develop their personal, social, equine and vocational skills. We are on a 7 acre site that includes American style barn with 20 stables, an Olympic size outdoor exercise arena, training/lecture room, tack room, feed room and grazing area.
Rhyl Community Furniture Recycling Ltd is a volunteer run, community led company which recycles unwanted household furniture. They collect unwanted household furniture and restore them to their former glory; it is then sold at the warehouse as a discounted price for people on low incomes or to benefit those who are trying to set up home. St. Kevin’s Family Resource Centre is a resource for all the community, our main purpose is to meet the growing social, development and educational needs experienced at individual, family and community levels. A voluntary Board of Management made up of local people and representatives from statutory and community groups oversee the development of the centre. This ensures that the work of the centre is based very much in the heart of the community. St. Kevin’s work has an anti-poverty remit working from community development principles of equality, social inclusion and empowerment.
Special Stories Publishing is an award winning Irish publishing company which specialises in books for children, parents, families and schools throughout the world. We introduce disabilities, social, health and education issues to all children in a child focused and unique way. Our stories are designed to celebrate diversity and difference and help children to learn the importance of accepting all friends and classmates as equals. Our books are available in schools, libraries and bookstores as well as via internet shops such as Amazon.
